We recently took the kids to Florida for a week and I restocked their backpacks with activities for the flight. I am blessed to have two great travelers. The combination of taking them early and often on a plane and always having fun new things to keep them busy and occupied has helped. Slowing down and releasing expectations, making a big deal about their fun adventure, and giving them a sense of agency and responsibility have been very helpful to us. Vincent (now 5) loves to help me pack his bag, toys, and his carry-on. He has taken it upon himself to watch out for Siena (a little over 2.5), help her navigate through the airport, security, and the airplane. She looks up to him so much. She wants to be just like him. He holds her hand through the lines, she introduces her to everyone, he tells TSA that she needs a special bin for her special baby so she can take a ride through the scanner. It makes my heart so happy to watch them like this.

I too was once scared to travel with kids. The fear of them being loud on a quiet plane, kicking the seat in front of us, disturbing passengers, etc.. the list goes on. I was so worried for them to make a peep. But what I have learned is that most people are respectful, helpful, and do not care. They in fact love seeing kids on flights. They love watching them. Most people have interacted with my kids, telling them what great travelers they are and how fun it was to watch them have so much fun on a flight. To see the world through a kids eyes is magical. To watch them love the little things of flying - watching the plane push back, the big machines out their windows, the luggage being loaded. The things we find mundane and annoying like delays - my kids turn into adventures. It forces me to shift my mindset while traveling.

Take the trip, the memories are priceless
